Declaration of the International Trade Union Network of Banco Santander UNI Americas Finance
Declaration of the International Trade Union Network of Banco Santander UNI Americas Finance, supported by the Executive Committee of UNI Americas Finance.
suncion - Paraguay, August 16, 2017.-
The workers of Santander's multinational network repudiate the Group's practices of political interference, of varying degrees of subtlety, in some countries of the Americas where Santander operates. Actions have been observed in Brazil and Argentina where there have been attempts to influence electoral processes, a fundamental aspect of democracy that gives citizens the right to the full exercise of democracy without external interference.
We also condemn the part played by Banco Santander in funding the unsustainable debt of the State of Puerto Rico, and its subsequent role in the Fiscal Control Board appointed by the Federal Government of the United States, that will decide on future debt collection in a clear conflict between public and private interests, one of the factors that will affect the distribution of costs of the crisis.
We demand that Santander Group signs a neutrality agreement with Communications Workers of America (CWA), to ensure that Santander workers in the US can genuinely decide to organise.
We declare solidarity among our organizations and commit to coordinate actions in defense of workers' rights and the defense of democratic guarantees and institutions in our countries.
