In the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, Prosegur made illegal deductions from employees’ salaries during a five-year period to pay for a compulsory life insurance scheme.
In Brazil, all private security workers are required to have life insurance in accordance with local legislation. The cost of life insurance is entirely the responsibility of employers.
The former employment award in the state was not in accordance with federal law and stated that workers would meet the cost of the life insurance.
Prosegur is obliged to immediately repay each worker the discounted portion of their salary, plus accrued interest.
