SITT’s rapid organizing in Information Technology in Romania earns a Breaking Through Award
Romanian IT union SITT (Sindicatul IT Timisoara) received a Breaking Through Award after their campaign to help tech workers organize gained over 1,100 new members in less than six months. They are now negotiating a collective bargaining agreement.
Florentin Iancu, President of SITT, said, “We achieved this because we have a strategic and tactical organization, and we thank the unions that have supported and trusted us. And we also thank UNI, who guided us and helped us achieve the success we reached.”
SITT’s organizing strategy comprises highly trained organizing committees, which bring together natural leaders of the workplace to organize workers around their everyday issues. SITT’s long term aim is to gain sectoral bargaining rights for the entire IT sector in Romania. Florentin Iancu, President, and Luigi Passaro, a leader of the union, accepted the Award.
