Workshop for Finance Sector Trade Union Leaders in Indonesia
UNI Apro Finance implemented a one day workshop for Trade Union leaders in Jakarta,Indonesia on 20th February 2008.There were thirty participants representing ten unions in banking industry in attendence. They were enlightened with the development of the global financial crisis and about the role of Private Equity and Soverign Wealth Funds. UNI, UNI Finance Global Unions responses to the challenges and pro-active strategies the unions should adopt to protect the interest of their members were discussed with the workshop participants. Mr. Gde Made Sadguna, Head of Research & Bank Restructring from Bank Indonesia [Central Bank] outlined the structural changes proposed for the banking industry to the participants. At the workshop conclusion all trade unions emphasised for a joint strategy to defend the rights of employees in finance industry,irrespective of various divisions amongst trade union centers in the country. Workshop participants requested similar activites to be implemented in order to strengthen the unity among the trade unions. Jayasri Priyalal, Director,UNI APRO Finance, who implemented the workshop called all unionist to organize and recruite members to strengthen their unions and prepare themselves to face the challenges in future.
