The Communication Workers Union (UK) set up a recruitment campaign to achieve the maximum possible membership level within BT at their annual conference earlier this year.
The campaign has already been successful by converting 1,073 non members into CWU members since July 2006. This is a fantastic achievement in expanding their membership in BT and hopefully this trend will continue. The campaign has proved that many of these non members’ reasons for not being a member of the union was that they were never asked.
Acknowledging the lessons learned from the campaign, Neil Anderson, Head of UNI Telecom said “This sends a strong message to unions globally that having organising as a top priority is essential for the modern trade union movement”
Meanwhile, the CWU have also taken on 7 TUC Academy Organisers as a resource to help with the wider telecoms arena.
