Highlights on... More effective and coherent work on Organizing, Union recognition, Global Framework Agreements, HIV/AIDS and gender awareness in project work were some of the messages from DRD’s meeting with the LO/TCO council, SIDA consultants and the Swedish affiliates in Stockholm on 13 May.
Future evaluations on projects in Asia and Pacific and new strategies on publicity about UNI’s work on union development were other important issues.
The purposes of the meeting were to exchange information about the current situation in Sweden as to development assistance, to review the narrative and financial reports for projects implemented in 2007 and to discuss ongoing projects 2008. The 22 projects implemented in 2007 are now all reported on and we continue our development work in 2008.
DRD and project coordinators now have to write full project applications that should be at UNI DRD by the end of May.

The Swedish affiliates confirm their continuous support towards ongoing projects in 2009 during a presentation of new project proposals for the years to come.

Development and Region's projects ...
... are carried out through different forms of project co-operation that gives unions the possibility to develop their capacity and internal structures, organise, defend the interests of workers, strengthen democracy and work towards equality and growth.
UNI’s programme of worldwide solidarity is to provide opportunities to educate and better equip unions and their members. The broad aims of the development activities are to build strong, democratic and independent trade unions in sectors represented by UNI to sustain UNI's representation and impact world wide.

This is the work of the Development and Regions' Department, DRD at the UNI Head Office in Nyon, which is responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of projects with affiliates in the regions, to improve communication and co-operation between funding organisations, supporting affiliates and field organisations. In the implementation of development projects, the department works in close co-operation with the UNI Regional Offices in Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean and with Asia and the Pacific, which are essential links to the project partners in the field. For the education and development activities UNI counts on the technical and financial support of its affiliates and their funding organisations in respective countries.
