Trade Union action for People with Disabilities
The President of the UNI World Women's Committee, Denise McGuire, and the Head of UNI Equal Opportunities, Veronica Fernandez Mendez, met on May 14-15, at ILO with the Bureau for Workers' Activities and other members of the trade union movement to discuss actions to promote decent work for persons with disabilities.
Disability is a key issue for social justice across the world and a human rights issue that needs to be addressed, particularly when it comes to the effectiveness of decent work. As trade unions we have the possibility to promote and develop alliances that will help reach the goal of decent work; as well as develop strategies and actions to raise awareness on the need for inclusion of people with disabilities at the workplace.
With this meeting, UNI Global Union and UNI Equal Opportunities are looking to increase their work towards a more fair, just and equitable society, by promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities.
