Barclays Europe Alliance launched in London
The Barclays Europe Alliance was launched on the 26th of January in London at a meeting organized by UNI Global Union Finance and hosted by Unite UK (see the Barclays Europe Alliance document attached).
The goals of the Alliance are to develop solidarity initiatives for the Barclays employees across borders, strengthen and organize the unions at national level and engage in a constructive social dialogue with the company, working in close collaboration with the EWC, also called the Barclays Group European Forum (BGEF). The BGEF met with Barclays on the 27th of January and signed a revised Charter for Responsible Banking across Europe.
The union leaders who came together from the UK, Italy, Portugal and France shared their concerns and priorities, including the need to address the impacts of job loss and sales pressure on the health of employees who suffer from chronical stress.
The team also agreed to further develop and expand their network in Germany, Ireland, Lithuania and the Czech Republic, and to increase their interaction with the Barclays Africa Alliance. The Europe Alliance echoes the Barclays Africa Alliance which was launched in Accra, Ghana in July 2014.The European and African union affiliates will come together in June 2015 in Tanzania to launch the Barclays Global Alliance, with the aim of raising the standards and rights for all employees working for Barclays around the globe.
