Bank Employees Uproar in Sri Lanka
Thousands of Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union members in the People’s Bank staged picket rallies in ten metropolitan cities of the country on 14th December 2017. CBEU launched a solidarity campaign denouncing the unjust suspension of democratically elected trade union leaders in the Peoples Bank.

CBEU members in the People's bank express their solidarity with the trade union leaders wearing a "BLACK BAND" while at work. At the picket rallies, CBEU leaders demanded the unconditional immediate reinstatement of the suspended trade union leaders including the President of the branch union Shantha Gangabadage.
At a well-attended picket rally in front of the Peoples Bank branch at the World Trade Center, CBEU President T G W Gunawardana handed over a letter to a representative of the Minister of Public Enterprise Development Hon. Kabir Hashim, requesting his intervention to resolve the matter to arrest the union busting and victimization of trade union leaders by the management of People’s Bank.
The executive committee of the CBEU was contemplating further trade union actions mobilizing its 27000 members in the event the government is unable to respond to unions legitimate demands. CBEU members, in the People's Bank, is expected to continue their agitation solidarity campaigns until the Peoples Bank management respects trade union rights in the bank.
