la situación en HP españa

union  14 April 2011 09:30:50

Seguiremos informando.

Support from HP EWC to open negotiation in Spain to avoid any forced layoff

Lorenzo DeSantis  13 April 2011 15:28:01

The HP European Works Councils (EWC) asks management to open immediate negotiations with the Spanish employee representatives to look at every alternative to avoid forced layoffs due to the planed reorganizations. Negotiations in other European countries have shown that such negotiations have successfully led the company to manage reorganizations in a socially responsible way allowing impacted employees to find new jobs. HP EWC (SC) members fully support the employee actions in Spain to obtain these negotiations.

The HP EWC members fully support the employee actions in Spain to obtain these negociations and avoid any forced layoff.

Solidarity with HP Strike at Spain, no strikebreaking!

The Spanish trade unions called for a strike this week at HP Spain to obtain the opening of such a negotiation process.

In Spain unemployment is with 20% higher than in most other European countries. In addition:

-        There are wage cuts of about 5% affecting public service workers

-        The retirement age has increased from 65 to 67 years

-        Dismissals process has been simplified

-        Rights of employee representatives have been reduced

The HP EWC cannot understand why a highly profitable company like HP keeps on laying off colleagues who did a valuable job for years. The HP EWC requests HP to get back to negotiations to achieve fair and socially responsible solutions.

The HP EWC members asks EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) employees to support the actions of the Spanish colleagues including strike if necessary and to refuse to  take over tasks from Spain.

HP representatives express solidarity with striking colleagues in Spain

Gerd Rohde  16 March 2011 07:28:22

Solidarity with HP Strike at Spain, no strikebreaking!

The Spanish trade unions called for this week to strike in HP Spain. In Spain joblessness is with 20% higher as in most other European countries no matter that:
-        there are wage cuts of about 5% for persons employed in the public service,
-        the increase of the retirement age from 65 to 67 years
-        drastic degradations with the protection against dismissal
-        degradations of the rights for employee representatives.

Looking at this background we can’t understand why a highly profitable company like HP will enforce dismissal of colleagues who did a valuable job
since years. We wish our striking Spanish colleagues all the success they need to avoid forced dismissals. We request HP to get back to negotiations to achieve fair and social responsible solutions.

If HP EMEA management prepares for strike and tries to go around the possible consequences of the strike by moving work from Spain to other  countries we would like to explain why we should support the striking Spanish colleagues and don’t take over tasks from Spain.

In the last years hundreds of jobs were lost through the transition to „Bestshore Spain“. A large part of those, which lost thereby their work, is now no more with HP. And now the remaining staff needs to jump into the breach, in order to let the strike at Spain run in emptiness? And afterwards bestshoring goes on and on… In our judgment this is an unreasonable demand for the affected colleagues!

Above all however: Fortunately the right to strike is a democratic achievement and a human right at all. Therefore no person employed can be forced, also not by management right to transfer strike breaker work and fall thus the Spanish colleagues in the backs! In case of any doubt or conflict please contact your work council.

HP cutting jobs in the UK

Gerd Rohde  6 July 2010 09:45:44

Trade unions voiced their anger about HP axing more than 900 jobs in the UK. It was also said that over 1'000 dismissal might follow next year.

Peter Skyte of UNI affiliate UNITE said: "This is a further cull by HP of its skilled and experienced UK workforce, and follows nearly 4,000 jobs being cut over the past two years since the takeover of EDS by HP."

Skyte also said "There are also serious implications for those who remain in their jobs and carry on service to customers and clients. "Skeleton levels of staff will lead to stressed-out workers who struggle to complete an ever increasing workload."

The European Works Council (EWC) of HP has already raised concerns and questioned the economic necessity of those dismissals as well as the lack of involvement in the decision making of local HR and employee representatives.

HP to cut 9’000 jobs?

Gerd Rohde  1 June 2010 16:38:38

According to IT World (01 June) HP is about to cut 9'000 jobs and to automate enterprise services.

Following the integration of EDS, HP will now consolidate its data centers and management platforms. This will go apparently with the automatisation of substantial parts of that work. The job cuts will be stretched over a couple of year, though not details were given. From that HP expects savings in the range of $500 to $700 millions.

HP strike in UK suspended

Gerd Rohde  30 March 2010 13:30:55

Over 1'000 PCS union members had voted in a recent ballot  in favour of strike action on 29-30 March for better pay and job security at HP.

As the company was prepared to return to the bargaining table, the trade union agreed to suspend the strike.

Commenting, Jim Hanson, PCS national officer for HP, said: "Following a meeting with HP at ACAS on 25 March where significant progress was made on the issues of pay and job security, PCS has agreed to suspend the current work to rule and strike action planned for 29th and 30th March.

"Further talks will take place at ACAS on 30th March, after which the union will review action planned for 6th and 7th April."

Trade unions engaged in HP in other European countries are currently preparing solidarity action in support of their UK colleagues.

HP’s biggest business is services says Mark Hurd

Lorenzo DeSantis  22 March 2010 15:33:37

In an article published last week, the CEO of the biggest PC manufacturer in the world declared services is now HP’s biggest business. In fact, services now accounts for 38% of HP’s operating profits thanks to the acquisition of EDS among other things. This is a major change compared to four years ago when imaging and printing still made 80% of the company’s profit.

This strategy shift had already been implemented by other big IT players such as Microsoft and IBM and doesn’t seem to slow down.

Civil service workers at HP UK voted in favor of industrial action

Lorenzo DeSantis  1 March 2010 10:39:35

A majority of PCS members voting in the national ballot have voted in favour of strike action by 63.4% to 36.6%, and in favour of action short of a strike by 81.4% to 18.6%.

"The ballot result sends a clear message to the employer that PCS members will not accept cuts in their accrued rights to fair redundancy compensation at a time when all the main political parties are planning deep public spending cuts" said UNI's affiliate PCS in a statement.
