UNI has 24 affiliates in India. These unions represent various sectors like MEI, Finance, Commerce, Postal, Graphical, Insurance, Property Services & IBITS.
Apparently, most of these unions are from public limited / Government owned organisations.
UNI with the help of UNIAPRO and through UNIDOC offices in India has initiated formation of employee unions in the new age globalised economy. This type of economy has created massive flow of capital across various regions and countries around the world, especially Asia. This is due to cheap labour, operating & manufacturing costs. More and more Multi-National Companies (MNCs) are moving or outsourcing thier work to India, there is urgent need for protection of worker rights.
Governments are colluding with these Multi-National Companies (MNCs) and formulating policies which are purely of anti-union and / or anti-worker in nature. SEZs or Special Economy Zones created by many state Governments is a pure example of anti-labour rights policies.
Some current & future organising projects of UNI are UNITES Professionals (UNion for ITES Professionals), UNICOME (UNIon for Commerce Employees), UNISECURITY (UNIon for SECURITY gaurds), UNIFINE (UNIon for Finance Employees), UNILOGE (UNIion for Logistics Employees).
These exisiting affiliates of UNI are working in solidarity with UNI to help build these new unions and safegaurd dwindling rights of employees working in the new Indian economy.
