Indroduction to UNI
UNI is a new kind of organisation. It was created in response to the revolution in the global economy and the explosive growth of new technologies which changed and are changing the way people live and work. In a global economy where global companies can shift investment and jobs in an instant, the people they employ need a voice to make sure that they can contribute their skills and experience to develop, make and distribute new and exciting products and services and to share in the benefits of these changes.
UNI's birth
So UNI Global Union was born, 1st January 2000, to bring together the people working in the skills and services sectors wherever they work in the world. Today it represents more than 20 million people worldwide in some 900 different union organisations in about 150 countries.

Fast growing areas of the economy in India such as IT and call centres, retail business in supermarkets and shopping malls, the banking Insurance and finance sectors, property services , mobile telephony and entertainment have created many new jobs in India in the last decade and will continue to grow at a fast rate. And often the companies are giant Indian or global concerns.
Employees and the companies can benefit when the employees have their own, independent organisations in which they can come together to discuss key issues which affect their working lives , career development, training, work schedules and working hours, travel to and from workplaces, remuneration, stress and health and safety at work. Pooling their ideas and experience employees can come up with schemes and ideas to improve their working lives and the companies they work in. To do so effectively requires them to have their own organisations in which they participate and decide on plans and activities and also of course the respect of their rights by responsible and socially aware employers.
UNI Unions
UNI India through its Unidoc offices has helped employees to work together to create their own organisations for IT workers and professionals and call centre employees..UNITES, for those in Finance & Insurance - UNIFINE, mobile phones - UNIMOBILE and in Commerce - UNICOME, secuirty workers - UNISECURITY, couriers & logistics - UNILOGE.
