About UNI americas

UNI americas is the regional organization of UNI Global Union which came into being in 2000 as a result of merger. It has six million members in 231 affiliated trade unions throughout the continent. Thanks to the existence of this regional body, we have been able to enhance the visibility of UNI in the region. The headquarters of the regional office for the Americas is located in Panama City. There are also three support offices: Buenos Aires, Washington and Port of Spain, all of which contribute to the work carried out by the sectors in the region.

MISSION STATEMENT
For UNI americas, two of the most precious values are democracy and freedom. We therefore support democratic and independent trade unionism by helping to develop and strengthen the unions and sectors in our region. All our efforts aim to ensure respect for fundamental human rights.

UNI americas is responsible for coordinating UNI activities in the region. These include promoting global trade unionism so as to turn our affiliates into the partners of choice for governments, regional organizations and multinational enterprises and thus to establish a real social dialogue.

UNI americas seeks to help its affiliates grow so that they in turn can become stronger and more representative, and act as beacons for gender and ethnic equality. We also want to promote effective solidarity between our affiliates and use this as a tool in support of the efforts made by our organization to obtain the financial and technological resources needed to meet the goals set out in our regional action plan and which mirror UNI’s global objectives
